General Information & History:
The British University in Dubai (BUiD), was established in 2004 and is the Middle East region's first, research based, postgraduate university. BUiD offers a unique opportunity for higher education. All BUiD Masters programmes have accreditation eligibility from UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
BUiD is located in Knowledge Village, Dubai.
BUiD's Founders and Contributers:
BUiD was established as a 'not for profit' university. The Founders of the University are Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai Development and Investment Authority, the National Bank of Dubai, the British Business Group, and Rolls Royce.
BUiD has also received strong backing from local and international organisations who have shown their support for BUiD at several levels including funding and scholarships. These include the Emirates Group, DUCAB, Dubai Duty Free, DUGAS, Atkins, Hyder Consulting, and the Emirates Foundation.
Admission Requirements & Process:
To join a Masters programmes at BUiD you must normally have a Bachelors degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be appropriately qualified in English language. In certain circumstances, eg where candidates have substantial relevant work experience or additional professional qualifications, then a case for exceptional entry may be made. Some programmes have additional requirements which are specified in the programme information.

BUiD degree programmes are based on similar high quality programmes of international standing that are offered in our partner universities.
All BUiD programmes have accreditation eligibility from the UAE Ministry of Education and Scientific Research.
Tuition Fees
The fee for Masters programmes in 2006/07 is AED 80,000 for the entire programme, whether studied on a full time (1 year) or part time (2 year) basis. The registered student is responsible for payment of the fee.
The fee may be paid in full before the start of the programme, or by installments. If payment is made by installments, full-time students may pay in 3 or 13 installments and part time students may pay in 3 or 25 installments, in accordance with the following schedule:
a. 3 installments - full-time AED

b. 3 installments - part-time AED
To reserve a place 8000
At the start of year 1 36000
At the start of year 2 36000

c. 13 installments - full-time

24 monthly installments x 3000 72000

Students receiving scholarships will have their payments reduced proportionately.
Students opting to pay by installments must deposit post-dated cheques with the University prior to the programme. Identity cards will not be issued, nor registration completed, until payments and post dated cheques (where applicable) are received. Students whose fees are paid by their employers or another person are required to complete a Sponsorship form which must be signed and stamped by their Sponsor. BUiD will then invoice the Sponsor for the full fee, which may be paid in one or three installments.
Accomodation & Living Expenses:
If you are coming to live in Dubai from another Emirate or from another country you will need to ensure that you have sufficient funds to meet your living costs while you are here.
The amount of money you will need will, to some extent, depend upon your own lifestyle. However, in order to obtain a student visa you will need to demonstrate that you have the equivalent of AED 30,000 at your disposal to support yourself in Dubai.
Additional Information:
BUiD holds occasional Open Lectures which are offered free to members of the public. The lectures are given by BUiD academic staff and guest lecturers from our partner universities. The Lectures are generally related to disciplines offered at BUiD and are on topics of particular relevance to the Arab world. They provide an opportunity for professionals working in the relevant field and others who have a general interest in the discipline or topic to keep up to date with latest developments and research.
